Research Assistant (Two Positions): University of California Irvine

The Navigation, Memory, and Aging and Neurobiology & Behavior labs at UC Irvine is hiring two positions for full-time research assistants/lab managers (junior specialist position title)! One position is for a project on spatial navigation across the lifespan, with a focus on midlife aging and menopause. The other is for functional imaging and spatial reference frames. Both positions involve working with immersive virtual reality, MRI, participant recruitment, and data analysis. In addition to spatial navigation, work in my lab relates to learning and memory, aging and Alzheimer's disease, computational modeling, and decision making. Research Assistant: University of Iowa

The Computational Affective Motivational Psychiatry Lab in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa (Director: Dr. Debbie Yee) is seeking a full-time Postbaccalaureate Research Intern (paid position) to contribute to our research on the neural and computational mechanisms of motivation, affect, and cognitive control and how disruptions in these processes underlie psychiatric and neurological disorders. We use a multimodal
approach combining fMRI, pharmacological manipulations, computational modeling, and neuromodulation to address these questions in both healthy adults and clinical populations. This position is ideal for individuals seeking intensive, mentored research training in preparation for graduate school or a career in computational cognitive neuroscience and/or computational psychiatry/clinical science. The intern will gain hands-on experience across neuroimaging,
behavioral, pharmacological, and computational methods in a highly collaborative and supportive environment. This position is ideal of individuals planning to apply to graduate school in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, clinical science, psychiatry, or related fields.

This is a paid one-year position with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and available funding. Candidates who intend to commit for two years are preferred. Qualifications include a bachelors degree in cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience, clinical science, or computer science, or related discipline, substantial research or work experience with either fMRI neuroimaging, cognitive neuroscience, affective neuroscience, or programming languages
(e.g., R, python, bash). Experience with computational modeling and fMRI is desirable but not required. Responsibilities include analyzing data and assisting with preparation of publications, implementing neuroimaging and behavioral data collection, attending lab meetings, area seminars as relevant (e.g., Cognitive Control Collaborative), departmental lectures and colloquia, and presenting at conferences, and maintaining research projects (e.g., human subjects IRB protocols, lab coordination, server maintenance, and financial management).

To apply, please submit a CV/resume, a brief cover letter describing your research interests and relevant experience, and contact information for two references via the .

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.  Click for the complete job description.

Please contact Debbie Yee (debbie-yee@uiowa.edu) with any questions about this position.

Research Assistant: Stanford University

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stanford University is seeking a Data Aide to join the laboratory of Dr. Supekar and support data organization, database management, and neuroimaging data analysis preparation across multiple NIH-funded projects at the intersection of neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and precision psychiatry. The Supekar lab integrates neuroscience and artificial intelligence (AI) to advance understanding of brain function and the mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric disorders. Through rigorous research and clinically oriented translation, the lab develops evidence-based innovations to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, with the ultimate goal of improving outcomes for individuals affected by mental illness.
The Data Aide will work closely with and under the direct oversight of Dr. Supekar on supporting the organization, management, and preparation of large-scale neuroimaging, clinical, cognitive, and molecular datasets focused on autism and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders. This is a full-time, in-person, computationally oriented role centered on data organization, database management, and neuroimaging data preparation. Core responsibilities include aggregating and examination of large publicly available multimodal data, maintaining and managing REDCap databases, organizing and structuring neuroimaging data files for use in analysis, and ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across studies. Additional responsibilities include use of computer applications to manipulate complex research data as well as development of scripts to assist with data organization, documentation and analysis support. The position offers hands-on experience supporting research at the intersection of neuroimaging, data science, and precision psychiatry, with close mentorship from the PI.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in computational neuroscience, neuroimaging, biomedical data science, or AI who are seeking hands on research experience before graduate or medical school.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent and two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Strong clerical, interpersonal, and basic organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and employ basic reasoning skills.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, R, or MATLAB, for data organization, preparation, quality control, reporting, or analysis-support tasks.
  • Ability to use formulas, scripts, software programs, or computer applications to manipulate, summarize, and report complex data.
  • Interest in or familiarity with neuroimaging data and file structures is desirable.
  • Experience with REDCap or similar data management/database systems is desirable but not required.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent and two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Required Application Materials

  • Brief cover letter describing relevant experience, interest in the position, and fit with the lab
  • Current resume or CV
  • Contact information for two or three references

Please email application materials as a single PDF to  with the subject line: Data Aide. For additional information about the position, please contact Dr. Supekar at the same email address.
