Format Change Starting Summer 2026

Starting in the Summer of 2026, the Master of Science in Professional Accountancy program will be offered 100% online (except internships).

MS in Professional Accountancy

The Master of Science in Professional Accountancy (MSPAccy) is designed for students with an undergraduate major in accounting who wish to become licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). All courses are delivered fully online except the required in-person internship. The program provides the added 30 credits to satisfy the 150 hour CPA requirement, while the curriculum aligns with areas covered on the CPA exam, including auditing and attestation, regulation and taxation, business analytics, and financial accounting and reporting.

Students admitted in the summer may complete up to 60 percent of the degree requirements prior to beginning their career with an accounting firm, while completing the remaining credits while employed. These students take 18 credits on a full-time basis during the summer and the remaining 12 credits on a part-time basis in the fall and/or spring. Accounting firms hire accounting graduates to begin their careers in early September.

Accreditation and Approval

51Թ’s MS in Professional Accountancy is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and is registered by the Office of the Professions of the New York State Education Department.

Out-of-State Students

51Թ is a participant in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). This agreement allows Marist to offer distance-learning programs to students residing in other SARA member states. SARA authorization does not extend to professional licensure board approvals.

The MS in Professional Accountancy curriculum is designed to meet the licensure requirements in New York State. Other states have their own requirements, and for this reason, Marist cannot assure that students residing outside the state of New York will meet licensure requirements in another state. It is the applicant’s responsibility to determine if Marist’s MSPAccy curriculum satisfies their state licensure requirements and to monitor any changes to their state requirements.
